Returned to Maui, Hawaii for a week. Took this opportunity to revisit some sites and hope for picturesque weather and lighting. Drove around the entire island and even went up to the top of Haleakala to 10,023ft.
Took a road trip to New Mexico for the Memorial Day weekend to venture out on the famous Route 66 through Tucumcari onto Santa Rosa, then down to White Sands National Park for some amazing scenery and sunset.
Visited Romania for the first time for business and took the opportunity to be hosted by some friends over two weekends, one of which was extended due to labor day. With Cluj as our starting point, got to visit the fortification at Alia Iulia, as well as the salt-mine nearby which houses a Ferris wheel and a pond. Then visited Bran Castle (aka Dracula's Castle), and a handful of other sites.
Stopped for a little relaxation in Bend and Salem in Oregon and Tacoma, Washington. Got the chance to experience some amazing views with some cooperating weather along the way. From some cloudy sunsets, some beautiful fields and vines, and low clouds over the water.
Weekend trip with coworkers for a small company team event to the island of ShengSi just off to the East of Shanghai. Famous for its beaches and access to fresh seafood, as well and lookout points which overlook almost the entire island.
Extended weekend trip to Singapore for the annual Sundown Marathon. Had a chance to visit a giant indoor waterfall at the Gardens By The Bay, as well as the famous Marina Bay Sands hotel which overlooks a large part of the city. With views of the Merlion and the Singapore Flyer ferris wheel.
An extended weekend trip to western China to visit the colorful landforms in Zhangye. Followed by a mountainous route through Qilian on the way to Qinghai Lake to see Sand Island and Bird Island. The final leg of the trip gave an sunrise experience on the way back to Xining before heading home.
My road to work each day is 10km each way, and it occurred to me that in the last 3 years in Shanghai, China, I had never stopped to photograph some of the sites I see almost every day. This post includes my narrow river road which I share quite closely with other motor vehicles, bridges which I must cross, and long avenues which lead to my office. I captured views in both direction, starting with a fairly humid morning, into a clear sunset.
It pains to say that smog does make for some incredibly beautiful sunset, but it is true. This post contains has a focus on recent sunsets in Shanghai with some smog acting as a filter and prism. It also includes a few photos for my Shanghai Tower Series showing the construction progress of the new Shanghai Tower and Shanghai Weather Series.
Quick trip to visit Macau and Hong Kong over a February weekend. Visited the largest casino in the world - the Venetian - in Macau, as well as parts of the old town. In Hong Kong, took in a temple and the Symphony of Lights which is a light show of the Hong Kong island skyline lighting up to synchronized music.
Spent 11 days based on the small Filipino island of Busuanga island-hopping our way from beautiful place to breath-taking place. Almost every photo in this post contains amazingly blue waters, white sand beaches, or some other postcard-like scene. Visited the clearest lake in the world called Kayangan Lake on Coron Island, as well as some tiny beach only islands like Debotunay Island.
Shanghai weather has been in the news recently for a surge of smog that has plagued the city. This post features a handful of photos to demonstrate these events firsthand. It includes a photo from this part July when the air was particularly clear for comparison. This post also includes a photo taken when fog (in addition of smog) covered the city floor, and is one of favorite photos to date.
With some visiting colleagues in town, some of us decided to take a day trip up to Nanjing, China. With so much to see and so little time, we decided that a weekend trip (the following week) was in order. This gave us the chances to see more. However, there was a dramatic changes of weather which makes of a stark contrast between the two trips and the two sets of photos.
Had the chance to visit such famous sites Angkor Wat and Ta Prohm jungle temple which visiting Siem Reap in northern Cambodia. There were so many temples to see and climb, like Angkor Thom and Bayon, and a long walk through the jungle to see Kbal Spean carvings and waterfalls. Then a few days in Sihanoukville to see south Cambodia beaches then back to Phnom Penh to see the Royal Palace.
The Autumn season in Shanghai experiences some sudden changes in weather and atmospheric clarity. This post includes a of set a photos which show these changes in weather. It contains some interesting sunsets, sunrises, some fast moving clouds and once again a few new lightning photos.
